So this year I decided to go to an accountant to do my taxes. Last year, when I was a freelancer all year, I made, honestly, a lot of money. And when you make a lot of money as a freelancer, you have to pay the government a lot of taxes. So I was worried about it, plus I don't really know how to do my taxes: in the past I have just used TurboTax and clicked wildly in random boxes until the number it spits out isn't in pesos.
I just got my return back from the accountant, and while I can't say I'm walking away with a refund (or even close) I do have enough money in my bank account to cover the bill, which was something I was really worrying about. Hurray! Steak dinners all around! $100 cigars lit with $50 cigars!
It is a great weight off of my shoulders and if any Portland-based freelancers are reading this I whole-heartedly endorse Nancy Gerber CPA!
